Severe Weather Policy

Now that we have entered into the storm season, we want to share with our patrons our updated severe weather policy.  The district will open the following sites to the public during Tornado Warning in our area.

Council Grove Elementary will open for northside (outside of school hours)
Resource Center (old Middle school) at the corner of SW44th and Council will be open to public

We have been told that OCCC has decided they will open the child development center across from John Glenn.  If you have questions about their policy and if and when they will be open, please contact OCCC (405-682-1611).

The major change that we made to our policy is that NO PETS of any kind are allowed at any of our facilities.   This is for the safety of all concerned and to protect our sites.  To read our severe weather policy in it's entirety, click this link.

Western Heights Public Schools is a small independent school district located on the southwest side of Oklahoma City. Our 3,600+ students are housed in four elementary (PK-4) buildings, one intermediate school (5-6), one middle school (7-8), one 9th Grade Center (9) and one high school (10-12). The District is small enough for us to know our students and large enough to provide exciting opportunities for the staff and students. For example, Western Heights has implemented a tremendous technology initiative.
Teachers, parents, and administrators operate on a continual school improvement process. Site level teams identify indicators of student success and areas which need attention. Plans are continually monitored and revised to correspond to student needs. Western Heights provides accelerated classes, honors classes, remedial classes, an inclusive special education environment, alternative school, School to Work initiatives, NJROTC, athletics, and a variety of clubs and after school activities. The district is well known throughout the State of Oklahoma for its outstanding vocal and instrumental music programs. Athletes compete annually on the state level.
