Western Heights Public Schools will continue to monitor the situation and will update as we learn more from the State Department of Education or Oklahoma County Health Officials.  If we need to close school for any reason in the future, closures will be reported via news outlets, social media, the districts notification system, and our website.

What We are Doing

As schools are closed we are cleaning and sanitizing all facilities.  We have electrostatic sprayers to keep all surfaces disinfected at all times.  Staff members in the buildings have temperatures taken twice a day and masks are worn in common areas.

What You Can Do

  • If your child is sick, please keep them at home until they are fever free for 24 hours without medication.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Please talk to your child about proper handwashing.

The CDC recommends the following:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.  Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Press Release

April 6, 2020

As much as we hate to do this, we have to consider the safety and health of our staff members and our students/families:

It is with great sadness that we are announcing the temporary stoppage of our food preparation and delivery service to our students effective today April 6th. With the continued recommendations for separation issued to our communities by the CDC, Oklahoma’s Governor and the Mayor of OKC and our concern for the safety of our students, staff, parents, and the communities we serve, we feel we must stop and allow the shelter in place guidelines to have time to take the full effect that they are intended for. We will hope to restart this service as soon as this pandemic is controled or eradicated and our students families are able to return to normal socialization. Thank you for your understanding during this very difficult time for us all. Please stay safe.

Buses will leave the main campus at 10:30 am and should arrive at the indicated time on the attached routes.  We will of course adjust routes as needed as we figure out the numbers of students that will be at each route.

Updates from Superintendent

March 29, 2020

As you have probably heard by now, we will not return to school on April 6th.  The Oklahoma State Board of Education voted to conduct distance learning through the end of the year.  We know you are anxious to know what this means for your kids, we will post an update this week about how we will accomplish this goal.

March 24, 2020

Western Heights has partnered with Feed the Children to provide food to families during this emergency situation. If you are a family in need, we will be handing out boxes of food at Bridgestone Intermediate, located at 1700 S. Council Road on Thursday March 26th from 12:00 (noon) to 6:00 pm. Pull up in your car, no need to enter the building, a box of food will be given to you by a member of our staff.

Feeding During the Closure

Starting Monday, March 23, our child nutrition staff will prepare a sack lunch and a sack breakfast for students aged 0-18.  The food will be loaded onto buses and we will run a modified route with modified stops.  We will be able to feed everyone under the age of 18 who are at the stops.  Since we have no idea how many students will be at the stops the routes are subject to change.  Buses will leave the main campus at 10:30 am and should arrive at the indicated time on the attached routes.  We will of course adjust routes as needed as we figure out the numbers of students that will be at each route.

Western Heights Public Schools is working closely with health care and education officials to ensure that we have taken all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19).

The safety and health of our students and staff is our main priority, and therefore we have decided to cancel school from March 23 through April 5, 2020. At this time, students and staff will report on Monday, April 6, 2020. Please understand that this closure may be lengthened due to public health and safety concerns. We encourage families to prepare for this possibility should it become necessary.

Effective tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, 2020, all in-person activities (including but not limited to, practices, performances, rehearsals, events, games, meetings, travel, etc.) will be cancelled.

Rest assured, we will continue cleaning and sanitizing all school sites to make sure our students and staff are safe upon their return.

We will continue to keep you informed through our social media sites, district website, and district notification system as information changes. Thanks again and please be safe on your return from Spring Break.
