Approved Clubs and Activities for 2017-2018

Purpose: To provide interested students with a place to learn, practice and promote visual art, produce future citizens that are aware of the importance visual art plays in our daily life, and to promote awareness of the many career possibilities available in the visual art field.
Business Professionals of America (BPA)
Sponsor: Samantha Bell
Purpose: Business Professionals of America is the leading CTSO (Career Technical Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields. BPA has more than 51,000 members in over 2,300 chapters in 23 states.
BPA is a “co-curricular” organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering curriculum based on national standards. Resources and materials are available on-line and designed to be customized to a school’s program.

Purpose: To promote school spirit, sportsmanship and unity at school events.
Class of 2018 (Senior Class)
Purpose: Responsible for fundraising and organization of the 2018 Jr/Sr prom. Organizes Class of 2018activities, including homecomings and other school spirit events. Meets on an as-needed basis.

Purpose: The Exchange club is a national service club founded on March 27, 1911. Its headquarters are in Toledo OH. The Exchange core values are commitment to family, community and country. The Excel club is a junior club of the Exchange club. The Excel club will organize and carry out service projects for the school and out community.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
Sponsor: Melissa Winston
Purpose: To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
FCA/ Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Sponsor: Elizabeth Bley
Purpose: Christian support of those participating and supporting extracurricular activities.
Flight Yearbook & WHHS Jetstream
Sponsor: Vicki Livingston
Purpose: To annually produce the high school’s yearbook, and produce the high school’s newsletter.
Foreign Language Club
Sponsors: Mindy Vazquez
Purpose: to practice the various languages taught at Western Heights High School, and to become familiar with the culture and customs of foreign countries. The Club is open to students of French and Spanish, as well as other students interested in Foreign Languages and native speakers who wish to expand their knowledge of other cultures. Club members must be active and pay dues of $3.00 per year.
HS Musical Cast
Purpose: Auditions and rehearsals are held outside of school hours for the purpose of performing an All-School (Broadway) musical for the student body, feeder schools and the community at large.

Purpose: To develop capable, caring young leaders through community and school volunteer service opportunities, college planning and scholarship resources, leadership development experiences, meetings and social events.
National Honor Society
Purpose: The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation’s premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929..
WHHS Book Club

Promotes the reading and discussion of modern literature. Participates in community literary initiatives. Meets every other Monday.
Western Heights High School Student Council

Purpose: To organize a stronger school spirit among students; to promote general cooperation of all students in improving educational, interesting, and entertaining assemblies; to operate as an organized medium of the student body; and to promote a general mutual feeling that will inspire us at all times to strive to make WHHS a better school.
