Head Lice Prevention and Treatment

The spread of head lice can be controlled with awareness, prompt diagnosis and effective treatment. Lice cannot fly or jump, and they are normally transferred during head to head contact.  Check your child’s hair frequently for evidence of head lice.

Unfortunately many children will have at least one case of lice detected in their classroom before the year is over.  If your child has head lice (bugs), he/she will be excluded from school until treated.  This should take no longer the 48 hours.

For information of the prevention and treatment of Head Lice see the Public Health Fact Sheet from the Oklahoma State Department of Health Acute Disease Service.
