Testing and Assessment

Proficiency Based Promotion
Upon application of a student, parent, guardian, or educator for promotion based on proficiency, an assessment will be given so the student has an opportunity to demonstrate proficiency. This assessment will include The Oklahoma Proficiency Tests which are consistent state standards for each curriculum area being considered. Western Heights Departmental evaluations will be used when the Oklahoma Proficiency Tests are not published for that area. In addition, the assessment may include other evaluations appropriate to the curriculum area(s), such as a thesis, project, product, portfolio, or additional written test. The opportunity for proficiency assessment will be offered twice per school year: once during the first two weeks of each school year, and once during the last 2 weeks of each school year.
Prior to an application being processed and/or following administration of any related assessment(s), a team meeting may be called at the discretion of the school principal. The team will consist of:
School principal
Elementary and/or secondary gifted/talented teacher
School counselor
Classroom teacher who teaches the student most of the day or who teaches the student in the subject area(s) being considered
Upper grade level teacher and/or department chair in area(s) being considered
Parent/guardian and student
Fill out the application link posted on this page. Applications can be filled out by a student, parent, guardian, or educator. You will then be contacted by a school employee.
